Drive to Nagarjuna Sagar

Nagarjuna Sagar is one of the world’s largest and tallest Masonry dams built across the Krishna river. It is a 3 hour drive from Hyderabad, with Sri Venkateshwara Temple on the way. This makes it perfect not so rushed day trip from Hyderabad.

The project also boasts of the largest canal system network in India .The mighty dam was completed in the year 1969 and has a majestic height of 124 meters. It is 1 km long, and has 26 crest gates. The dam can store upto 11, 472 million cubic meters of water in the reservoir.

The drive itself is pretty plain and uninteresting, but it does take one away from the crowded city life.
First Stop — Sri Venkateshwara Temple
Nagarjuna Sagar Dam: Most of the area around the reservoir doesn’t have clean water.
However there are certain swimmable parts (at your own hygiene risk).
Being away from the city, it also makes a good spot for some late night stargazing, (with whatever is left minus the pollution), followed by street side chai and dosa on the way back!
